Week 10 - The Pursuit of Your Dreams

This week our focus was on dreaming big and directing our efforts and focus on the assets, components and/or processes that we need to help us achieve our dreams. These include hard work, creativity, flexibility, education, training, endurance, confidence, fortitude, optimism, and tenacity (just to name a few).

In this week’s study materials we learned about a variety of techniques that we can utilize on our path to success. The three that I have found most in line with my own personality and unique dreams include knowing my potential, having faith in myself and putting one foot in front of the other! In The Challenge to Become by Dallin H. Oaks we are taught, “We must not give up hope. We must not stop striving. We are children of God and it is possible for us to become what our Heavenly Father would have us become.” As our eternal potential is limitless, so is the potential we have here on earth. Our responsibility is to encourage the same in others – to help them see their own potential and the possibilities in store for them.

Additionally, Marissa Mayer’s License to Pursue Dreams touches on a unique culture at Google that encourages employees to explore their own passions and dreams. Allowing employees to spend 20 percent of their time working on projects and ideas that they are passionate about has resulted in more fulfilled employees and a growth of creative and unique discoveries that have benefited Google as a whole. Mayer states, “they realize that this is a company that really trusts them, that really wants them to be creative, and really wants them to explore whatever it is that they want to explore, and it's that license to do whatever they want that really ultimately fuels a huge amount of creativity and a huge amount of innovation. As we pursue our dreams and provide space for others to do the same, we will find that the benefits reach far beyond ourselves.

We are all blessed with a bountiful array of gifts, talents, resources and tools at our disposal thanks to Heavenly Parents who ache for us to become our best selves so that we can make a positive impact on the world around us. No matter what the particular skill set we each need to succeed might be, we can have faith that as we include our Heavenly Father in the process we will be blessed beyond measure.
