Week 7 - True to You
This week’s focus was Moving Forward with a Driving Passion. Similar to the past six weeks this semester, our study materials provided a well-rounded glimpse of applications for our spiritual and personal development, educational pursuits and our professional journey. In addition, we finished our reading of Mastery by George Leonard, which gives insights on ways to find success and long-term fulfillment in all aspects of our lives. I really enjoyed the focus on self-development and authenticity as integral parts of our personal, professional and spiritual success. While all of the materials were interesting and insightful, there were two that stood out to me the most.
The first is Guy Kawasaki’s video Passion vs. Money – it gives us a clear understanding of the importance of following our passions. He says, “If you love it and you change the world, you will be rich.” In his talk we are advised to find the point where our passion intersects with a need in the world (something that changes lives for the better) in order to be truly rich. When our passions overlap our entrepreneurial endeavors, we will enjoy the process more and in turn will be rich in spirit, purpose and (hopefully) finances. Starting with a genuine purpose in mind is essential to true success.
The second was President Gordon B. Hinckley’s lessons in his talk Stand True and Faithful. He instructs us that the most essential components to our success are to be true to the faith, true to ourselves, true to our heritage, and true to our Father in Heaven. I really enjoyed his message of positivity and promise – over and over again he emphasizes the eternal value we each possess and encourages us to use our divine heritage as a catalyst to do good in the world. Through our understanding of our self-worth and potential, we are able to remain faithful and stand true to God’s word. His message coincides with that of Guy Kawasaki’s – if we know who we are and what matters to us, we open the doors to unlimited potential and unimaginable success in all aspects of our lives.
